Coachee4

Next week will be the first coaching session.
Among the target of my coaching will be building awareness and responsibility in my subordinate. Under coaching and using it as a direct relationship between the two of us should create more and more interaction carried out through conversation.

My first step will be to make clear that the practice of coaching is not the practice of psychiatry. Explaining this will be challenging the understanding from both of us but it should be handled as soft as possible to make the coaching session interesting.

I am planning to explain that although psychology might be familiar territory for many of us, however its application to coaching has major drawbacks because psychological methods may require personal disclosure beyond what my coachee is willing to make. Thus, it is essential to have a mutual agreement and commitment by both of us throughout the coaching relationship.

As I am planning to insert the raising awareness in the internal self of a person, the meaning of the word awareness should be clear by me.

From MacMillan English’s Dictionary: Awareness is the understanding or knowledge of a subject, issue or situation which means focused attention, concentration and clarity. It is actually implying that having awareness and knowledge of something through alertness in observing or interpreting on what one sees, hears, feels, etc.

In science, awareness covers very much more than what our five senses can tell. It help to gather and clear the perception of relevant facts and information and also shows the ability to determine what is relevant. This ability will include the understanding of systems, dynamics, relationships between things and people and inevitably some understanding of human behaviour. More specifically, awareness thus covers self-awareness in particular recognizing when and how emotions, moods or desires distort one’s own perception.

Will see the result then in my next blog Coachee5.
